Westside Montessori School was founded in Houston, Texas in the Spring of 1977 by a small group of passionate parents in the Memorial area. Their goal was to establish a parent cooperative affiliated with the American Montessori Society. We have operated as such continuously since the fall of 1977.

We are very blessed to have many families and students from all around the world. Our school population reflects a wide diversity of cultures that WMS wholeheartedly embraces and values. The beauty of Montessori education is that it is universal and meets children's developmental needs no matter their country or background.

Our Community

Basic and vital to the universal needs of the child is an involved parent who demonstrates to their child that school is important by being engaged in their child's daily school activities and events that occur during the school year. In addition, WMS relies on its families to continue to improve our programming and environment year-to-year. With this said, our goal is to encourage parents to participate at Westside Montessori School during the duration of their child's enrollment at WMS.

Our Vision

WMS strives to offer a pure form of Dr. Maria Montessori’s educational philosophies and methods to our students. The Montessori approach nurtures the whole child and by doing so helps to create a centered being with confidence and compassion for the world around her. Guided by Dr. Maria Montessori’s wisdom, WMS prioritizes creating a favorable environment that will encourage the flowering of a child’s natural gifts by removing all obstacles. This environment is the foundation for all future education.
