Basic and vital to the universal needs of the child is an involved parent who demonstrates to their child that school is important by being engaged in their child’s daily school activities and events that occur during the school year. In addition, WMS relies on its families to continue to improve our programming and environment year-to-year. With this said, our goal is to encourage parents to participate at Westside Montessori School during the duration of their child’s enrollment at WMS.
As a parent co-op school, we believe that full support of our parent community in the form of service hours is essential to continued excellence and year over year school improvement. We strongly encourage all families to pledge at least 20 service hours between August and June or to donate the volunteer hour rate equivalent.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are planning to do a culture presentation that includes digital content, please send your file(s) to the classroom teacher a week before your scheduled time so they can review and provide feedback to ensure that all content is age appropriate.
Lower Elementary Interactive Read Aloud
One of our school-wide goals focuses on literacy instruction. Interactive Read Aloud (IRA) time allows students to engage in critical thinking and discussion based on text-dependent questions. Research shows that daily practice with IRA is essential for developing students’ critical thinking and analysis skills, as well as improving their reading skills.We are excited to share that our parents will be helping us spearhead this initiative. Our student support staff will model sessions for new volunteers. We encourage you to reach out to us with any questions.
Donate Flowers for Student Arranging
Sign up to bring fresh flowers to our classrooms. All levels enjoy having fresh flowers for students to do flower arranging as part of their practical life work, to study parts and functions of the flower in life science, and as a beautiful addition to the prepared environment.
Please bring the flowers to the front office anytime between 8:00-9:00 a.m. on the Monday you have signed up. We need 30-40 flowers (stems); any type that isn’t too fragrant and does not have thorns is a great choice. Some examples include carnations, daisies, and alstromeria.
